The machine park of REMAL Sp. z o.o. is constantly expanding, and every new investment is a response to the real needs of customers and the growing demands of the industrial market. This time, our facility on Hutnicza Street in Konin has welcomed the heavy-duty CQ6280 800×3000 mm lathe – a machine that opens up completely new possibilities in the field of precision machining of large and massive components. Below, we present a detailed description of this exceptional machine – its construction, technical parameters, and real production capabilities.

Impressive working dimensions – a lathe for truly large components

The CQ6280 lathe is a machine from the heavy-duty segment, designed for machining components with dimensions far beyond the capabilities of standard workshop lathes. Its key working dimensions speak for themselves:

  • Turning diameter over bed: 800 mm – a space where we can easily machine shafts, drums, wheels, and other large-diameter components impossible to produce on smaller machines
  • Turning diameter over carriage: 570 mm – the effective working space with the tool carriage engaged
  • Gap bed diameter: 1035 mm – thanks to the removable bed section, components with an even larger diameter exceeding one meter can be machined, which is a rare capability even among machines of this class
  • Distance between centers: 3000 mm – a turning length that allows shafts up to three meters long to be machined in a single setup

This combination of parameters makes the CQ6280 ideal wherever heavy industrial components are involved: drive shafts, drums, bushings, flanges, axles, and other large-scale machine parts.

The bed width is 400 mm, providing a stable and rigid base for both the workpiece and the tool carriage – even under maximum machine load.

Spindle and drive system – strength and precision in one

The main motor of the CQ6280 lathe has a power output of 7.5 kW – sufficient to perform intensive machining of hard materials such as structural steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal alloys with ease. This power, combined with the machine’s massive construction (weight of 4300 kg), ensures stable, vibration-resistant operation even at large cutting depths.

The spindle offers a speed range from 25 to 1600 RPM, giving the operator full flexibility in selecting machining parameters. Low speeds are ideal for turning large, heavy components and rough machining, while high speeds are suitable for surface finishing and precision operations on smaller details. Such a wide adjustment range is rare even among machines in this class and makes the lathe truly versatile.

The spindle bore diameter is 105 mm – rods and shafts of this diameter can be fed through and machined directly through the spindle, significantly expanding the range of possible technologies and eliminating the need for additional holders or supports.

The spindle nose in the D1-8 standard ensures compatibility with a wide range of lathe chucks available on the market, while the MT5 tailstock taper is compatible with drills, centers, and other tools mounted in the tailstock.

Feed rates and threading – full control over every parameter

The CQ6280 lathe offers an extensive range of feed settings, allowing machining parameters to be precisely adapted to the material type and required surface quality:

  • Longitudinal feed: 0.044 – 1.48 mm/rev – from extremely fine finishing feed to efficient rough machining
  • Cross feed: 0.022 – 0.74 mm/rev – similarly adapted for facing and grooving operations

The machine also offers full threading capabilities. The metric thread range extends from 0.45 to 120 mm – one of the widest ranges available in this class of lathes, enabling the production of both fine precision threads and coarse trapezoidal threads used in screws and industrial mechanisms.

The maximum turning tool size is 25 x 25 mm, corresponding to the tooling standards used in heavy machining operations.

Massive construction – the foundation of precision in heavy machining

The CQ6280 lathe weighs 4300 kg and measures 4710 x 1230 x 1600 mm. Such a powerful structure is no coincidence – in heavy turning, the machine’s mass is directly correlated with machining quality. The heavy bed dampens vibrations generated during machining of hard materials at large cutting depths, ensuring a smooth surface finish and long tool life.

The machine bed is made of high-grade cast iron, hardened and ground, guaranteeing geometric accuracy for many years of intensive operation. The guideways are hardened and precision-ground – they determine the repeatability of carriage positioning and the final accuracy of manufactured components.

Range of applications – what can be produced on this lathe?

The CQ6280 is a machine designed for turning rotational solids – components whose shape can be described by rotational movement. In practice, this means a very wide range of possibilities:

  • Shaft turning – from short journals to shafts up to 3 meters long, including stepped, tapered, and multi-diameter shafts
  • Turning of bushings, drums, and flanges – components with large external and internal diameters requiring both external and internal machining (boring)
  • Turning of spheres and complex solids – complicated rotational shapes using copying techniques or programmed feed movement
  • External and internal threading – metric threads across the full range, produced using turning tools while maintaining high pitch accuracy
  • Drilling and boring – using tools mounted in the tailstock (MT5) or tool carriage
  • Facing operations – machining perpendicular end surfaces of shafts and discs
  • Machine part regeneration – restoring damaged or worn surfaces of shafts, journals, and bushings

This last capability is of particular importance to REMAL. One of our key competencies is precisely the regeneration and repair of industrial machine parts – often unique components for which spare parts are unavailable or manufactured exclusively on request. Thanks to its dimensions and precision, the CQ6280 lathe allows us to undertake the regeneration of truly large and heavy components that other workshops are unable to handle.
